Diabetic nephropathy is characterised by persistent albuminuria, elevated blood pressure, relentless decline in GFR and enhanced fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular diseases. Microalbuminuria has been central to the development of clinical practise in prevention and treatment of diabetic nephropathy and cardiovascular disease.
