Epigenetic factors, including altered microRNA (miRNA) expression, may contribute to aberrant immune cell function in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). MiRNA-let-7a (let-7a) has been shown to directly alter cell cycle progression and proinflammatory cytokine production.
