BACKGROUND Approximately 30% of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies of thyroid nodules are indeterminate or nondiagnostic. Recent studies suggest microRNA (miRNA, miR) is differentially expressed in malignant tumors and may have a role in carcinogenesis, including thyroid cancer.
