We profiled 98 mature microRNAs (miRNAs) using a stem-loop reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction assay array based on human miRNAs. We demonstrated that one, but not two, base-pair changes in the miRNA recognition sequence at the 3' end only marginally affected copy number estimates. Absolute levels of miRNAs were measured in matured cattle oocytes, eight-cell embryos and normal and parthenogenetic blastocysts and Day-14 trophoblast. Most miRNA concentrations were below the expected…
Dynamics of small non-coding RNAs in bovine scNT embryos through the maternal-to-embryonic transition
TLDR
Examining dynamic changes in relative abundance of sncRNAs during the maternal-to-embryonic transition (MET) in bovine embryos produced by scNT as compared to IVF by using RNA sequencing revealed largely similar profiles of snCRNAs for IVF and scNT embryos at the 2-cell, 8- cell, morula, and blastocyst stages of development.
The maternal-to-zygotic transition in bovine in vitro-fertilized embryos is associated with marked changes in small non-coding RNAs†
TLDR
A strong dynamic shift in the relative abundance of sncRNAs associated with the MZT in bovine oocytes and embryos is revealed, suggesting that these molecules may play important roles in the shift from maternal to zygotic control of gene expression.
Transcript profiling of bovine embryos implicates specific transcription factors in the maternal-to-embryo transition
TLDR
RNAseq coupled with transcriptional inhibition suggests that gene expression is critical for degradation of maternal mRNAs and that KLF family members regulate expression of ∼ 50% of embryonically expressed genes.
The Role of MicroRNAs in Mammalian Fertility: From Gametogenesis to Embryo Implantation
TLDR
The role of miRNAs in mammalian gametogenesis and embryogenesis is highlighted and recent findings about miRNA-mediated post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms occurring during early mammalian development are summarized.
Comparative Analysis of Small Non-Coding RNA and Messenger RNA Expression in Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer and In Vitro-Fertilized Bovine Embryos During Early Development Through the Maternal-to-Embryonic Transition
TLDR
A strong dynamic shift in relative abundance of differentially expressed sncRNAs is revealed, suggesting important roles for snc RNAs during the MET in bovine IVF embryos, and the dysregulation of sncRNA and transcriptome profiles in scNTbovine embryos compared to IVf embryos is assessed.
The Epigenetics of Gametes and Early Embryos and Potential Long-Range Consequences in Livestock Species—Filling in the Picture With Epigenomic Analyses
TLDR
The epigenetic analyses of germ cells and embryos in mammalian livestock species and the epigenetic determinants of gamete and embryo viability are reviewed and the effects of parental environmental exposures on the epigenetics of gametes and the early embryo are discussed.
Preimplantation development in ungulates: a "ménage à quatre" scenario.
TLDR
The body of work described here demonstrates the extent to which this dialogue enables the coordination of the development of the conceptus with respect to the establishment of embryonic and extra-embryonic tissues as well as in preparation for implantation.

Expression analysis of regulatory microRNAs in bovine cumulus oocyte complex and preimplantation embryos
TLDR
The results showed the presence of distinct sets of miRNAs in oocytes or cumulus cells and the existence of their dynamic degradation during bovine oocyte maturation.
Analysis of microRNAs and their precursors in bovine early embryonic development.
TLDR
It is suggested that miRNAs could be important players in the maternal-to-embryonic transition, as expression profiles suggest a potential regulation role during early development steps.
Small RNA Profile of the Cumulus-Oocyte Complex and Early Embryos in the Pig1
TLDR
A small RNA expression profile of the pig cumulus-oocyte complex and early embryos is established and their potential capacity to be utilized for predictions of functional posttranscriptional regulatory events is demonstrated.
Identification and expression profiling of microRNAs during bovine oocyte maturation using heterologous approach
TLDR
This work investigated the expression of miRNAs in immature and in vitro matured bovine oocytes, using heterologous miRNA array platform and revealed the differential expression of 59 miRNAAs, of which 31 and 28 mi RNAs were found to be preferentially expressed in mature and matured oocyte, respectively.
Simultaneous gene quantitation of multiple genes in individual bovine nuclear transfer blastocysts.
TLDR
Variability in gene expression levels was not significantly different in NT, IVP or in vivo embryos but differed among genes, suggesting that the stringency of regulation is intrinsic to a gene and not affected by culture or nuclear transfer.
Regulatory microRNA network identification in bovine blastocyst development.
TLDR
Functional evidence is found that miR-218, mainly expressed in the inner cell mass, regulates the NANOG expression in the bovine blastocyst in response to FGF signaling.
