The aim of this study was to determine a role of microRNA-21 (miR-21) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and to elucidate the regulation of phosphatase and tensin homologue (PTEN) gene by miR-21. MiR-21 expression was investigated in 30 CRC samples and five CRC cell lines. In this study, we show that the expression of miR-21 was overexpressed in CRC compared with adenomas and normal tissues. Patients with poor differentiation, lymph node…

MicroRNA-21 (Mir-21) Promotes Cell Growth and Invasion by Repressing Tumor Suppressor PTEN in Colorectal Cancer
Background/Aims: MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) has been demonstrated to play an important role in carcinogenesis; however, its mechanism of action in colorectal cancer (CRC) has not been fully elucidated. The
MicroRNA-21 promotes phosphatase gene and protein kinase B/phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase expression in colorectal cancer.
TLDR
PTEN is one of the direct target genes of microRNA-21 and its downstream AKT and PI3K expression levels can be regulated by regulating the expression levels of miR-21, which in turn regulates the development of CRC.
microRNA-21 Regulates Cell Proliferation and Migration and Cross Talk with PTEN and p53 in Bladder Cancer.
TLDR
Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that the expression of miR-21 considerably increased in primary cancer tissue compared with that in the paired adjacent noncancerous tissue and that in normal bladder mucosa.
miR-21 Inhibitors Modulate Biological Functions of Gastric Cancer Cells via PTEN/PI3K/mTOR Pathway.
TLDR
Inhibiting miR-21 modulates biological functions of gastric cancer cells via PTEN/PI3K/mTOR pathway and miR -21 inhibitor may provide a novel therapeutic strategy for Gastric cancer.
MicroRNA-21 stimulates gastric cancer growth and invasion by inhibiting the tumor suppressor effects of programmed cell death protein 4 and phosphatase and tensin homolog.
PURPOSE MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) is abnormally expressed in many solid cancers, such as gastric adenocarcinoma, and regulates some targets involved in cancer initiation and progression. In this study, we
MicroRNA-21 promotes proliferation, migration, and invasion of colorectal cancer, and tumor growth associated with down-regulation of sec23a expression
TLDR
Findings provide novel insight into the molecular functions of miR-21 in CRC, which may serve as a potential interesting target.
miR-21 regulates growth and EMT in lung cancer cells via PTEN/Akt/GSK3β signaling.
TLDR
It is shown that regulation of proliferation and EMT are directed by PTEN/Akt/GSK3 beta signaling axis by regulating the expression of invasion markers including E-cadherin, vimentin, snail, slug and beta-catenin.
miR-21 Knockdown Reduces Cell Viability and Induces Cell Apoptosis in Breast Cancer Cell Line MDA-MB-231
TLDR
Anti-miR-21 transfection induces cell death which shows its potential as a therapeutic applications in breast cancer treatment and Knockdown of miR- 21 significantly increased the expression of PTEN and BCL2.
MiR-21 up-regulation mediates glioblastoma cancer stem cells apoptosis and proliferation by targeting FASLG
TLDR
Aberrantly expressed miR-21 regulates G SCs apoptosis and proliferation partly through directly down-regulating FASLG protein expression in GSCs and this might offer a new potential therapeutic stratagem for glioblastoma.
MicroRNA-30 b functions as a tumour suppressor in human colorectal cancer by targeting KRAS , PIK 3 CD and BCL 2
TLDR
Functional and mechanistic links between miRNA-30b and oncogene KRAS, PIK3CD and BCL2 in the pathogenesis of CRC were revealed and Restoration of miR-30B expression may represent a promising therapeutic approach for targeting malignant CRC.
