Background: The mechanisms of homologous recombination and recombinational repair of double-stranded DNA breaks in mitochondria are poorly understood. Results: The yeast mitochondrial nucleoid protein, Mgm101, shares biochemical, structural, and functional similarities with the Rad52 family proteins.
