Calcineurin, a conserved Ca(2+)/calmodulin-regulated protein phosphatase, is an important mediator of calcium-dependent signal transduction pathways in many organisms. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, calcineurin positively regulates transcription in response to stress by dephosphorylating the transcription factor Crz1p.
