Considerable data have accumulated which suggest that some or most forms of periodontal disease are specific, albeit chronic, bacteriological infections (1, 2). In most instances the plaque flora removed from infiamed sites are dominated by anaerobic organisms such as spi-rochetes, bacteroides and eubacterium species (1^).
