Receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand (RANKL) expression is tissue specific and limited to certain subsets of T-lymphocytes and stromal/osteoblastic cells. Even among osteoblasts, RANKL is expressed on about 20% of osteoblasts of the normal mouse.
