The evidence linking smoking and coronary artery disease is quite strong, and there is also a positive relationship between smoking cessation and reduction in cardiovascular disease risk. Nicotine replacement therapy and bupropion are effective treatments for smoking cessation and are most effective when combined with behavioral counseling.
