The equilibrium pressure obtained during simultaneous occlusion of hepatic vascular inflow and outflow was taken as the reference estimate of hepatic vascular distending pressure (P(hd)). P(hd) at baseline was 1.1 +/- 0.2 (mean +/- SE) mmHg higher than hepatic vein pressure (P(hv)) and 0.7 +/- 0.3 mmHg lower than portal vein pressure (P(pv)). Norepinephrine (NE) infusion increased P(hd) by 1. 5 +/- 0.5 mmHg and P(pv) by 3.7 +/- 0.6 mmHg but did not significantly increase P(hv). Hepatic lobar…
Modulating Portal Hemodynamics With Vascular Ring Allows Efficient Regeneration After Partial Hepatectomy in a Porcine Model
TLDR
MID-AVR might improve liver regeneration by protecting liver microarchitecture by reducing changes in hemodynamics due to hepatectomy and is safe for portal hemodynamics modulation.
Endocrine and paracrine aspects of vascular control : the effects of natriuretic peptides on human capacitance in health and chronic heart failure
TLDR
ANP regulates regional vascular volume and venous tone over a wide range of physiological and pathophysiological plasma levels without affecting compliance andVenous ANP responsiveness is preserved in patients with chronic heart failure despite marked impairment in the resistance vasculature.
Multiscale study of the hepatic volume evolution after major hepatectomie in a porcine model
TLDR
Relationships between liver function, blood flows and architecture along with liver volume after major hepatectomy will be carefully analyzed by combining experiments and modeling on multiple levels and scales to improve identification of possible or likely post-operative liver failure as early as possible.
Orchidectomy enhances the expression of endothelin-1 and ETB receptors in rat portal vein
TLDR
The results suggest that orchidectomy increases the production of ET-1 in the rat portal vein and that, at least partially, it may be related to the previously reported elevation of responses to phenylephrine.
Orchidectomy enhances the effects of phenylephrine in rat isolated portal vein
TLDR
Orchidectomy results in long‐term testosterone deprivation similar to that observed in male clinical pathologies, such as hypogonadism and age‐related reductions in plasma testosterone concentrations, which is known in arteries but not to the same extent in veins.

Hepatic capacitance responses to changes in flow and hepatic venous pressure in dogs.
TLDR
It is concluded that changes in Fin as well as changes in Phv cause changes in liver volume; and that a significant fraction of the volume shift accompanying changes inPhv is due to transsinusoidal plasma movement.
Hepatic capillary pressure is estimated using triple vascular occlusion method in isolated canine liver.
TLDR
It is concluded that Pto is an excellent estimate of Pc in isolated blood-perfused canine livers and that the hepatic vascular resistance sites in the resting states are located evenly in the pre- and postsinusoidal vessels.
Distribution of pressure gradients along hepatic vasculature.
TLDR
It is concluded that most of the transhepatic resistance cannot be attributed to a specific vascular segment or vessel type and that sinusoidal pressures are not closely similar to either the Ppv or the Pave, as is often assumed.
Norepinephrine on venous compliance and unstressed volume in cat liver.
TLDR
It is concluded that venoconstriction in the hepatic bed occurs by a decrease in unstressed volume with little change in compliance, which represents a true blood volume reserve, independent of passive influences, which can be mobilized by the central nervous system.

TLDR
It is indicated that lobar venous pressure cannot be assumed under all conditions to accurately reflect portal pressure and virtually all of the pressure rise induced by histamine and norepinephrine could be attributed to the postsinusoidal resistance site.
Localization of intrahepatic portal vascular resistance.
TLDR
Stimulation of hepatic sympathetic nerves for 3 min caused LVP and PVP to increase equally, showing that the increased "portal" resistance is postsinusoidal across the same region of the hepatic veins that was previously localized as the site of resistance in the basal state.
Regulation of hepatic vascular volume: contributions from active and passive mechanisms during catecholamine and sodium nitroprusside infusion.
TLDR
The pig model used in this study, accurately quantified hepatic capacitance, reflecting that the liver is not only a passive blood reservoir but can respond actively and vigorously to pharmacological interventions.

TLDR
The pressure-flow characteristics of the hepatic common outflow resistance were determined in five anesthetized dogs and found to be nearly linear in the range of normal flows, but exhibited a moderate convexity toward the pressure axis at low flows.
Hepatic venular pressures of rats, dogs, and rabbits.
TLDR
It is concluded that the portal and sinusoidal vasculatures are the dominant, but not exclusive, resistance sites of the liver venous vasculature both at rest and during norepinephrine-induced vasoconstriction.
Contribution of the large hepatic veins to postsinusoidal vascular resistance.
TLDR
It is concluded that the major pressure gradients in the canine liver must lie upstream to the large hepatic veins of pentobarbital sodium-anesthetized dogs.
