This paper contributes to the field of modeling and hindcasting of the total solar irradiance (TSI) based on different proxy data that extend further back in time than the TSI that is measured from satellites. We introduce a simple method to analyze persistent frequency-dependent correlations (FDCs) between the time series and use these correlations to hindcast missing historical TSI values. We try to avoid arbitrary choices of the free parameters of the model by computing them using an…

How faculae and network relate to sunspots, and the implications for solar and stellar brightness variations(Corrigendum)

Context. How global faculae and network coverage relates to that of sunspots is relevant to the brightness variations of the Sun and Sun-like stars. Aims. We aim to extend and improve on earlier

Thermomagnetic Ettingshausen-Nernst effect in tachocline, magnetic reconnection phenomenon in lower layers, axion mechanism of solar luminosity variations, coronal heating problem solution and mechanism of ADM variations around BH

It is shown that the holographic principle of quantum gravity (in the hologram of the Universe, and therefore in our Galaxy, and of course on the Sun!), in which the conflict between the theory of

Long-Term Periodic Modeling in Hydrology: Role of Sunspot Cycles

AbstractSolar irradiation is the dominant source of energy driving hydrologic phenomena on the Earth. This study is a step toward investigating the statistical significance of the relationship betw...

Reconstruction of total solar irradiance 1974-2009

Context. The study of variations in total solar irradiance (TSI) is important for understanding how the Sun affects the Earth’s climate. Aims. Full-disk continuum images and magnetograms are now

Short Term, Direct Indices of Solar Variability

Indices of solar activity relevant for understanding and modelling solar irradiance variability are identified, and their temporal characteristics compared. Reproducing observed solar irradiance

Sun’s total irradiance reconstruction based on multiple solar indices

In order to uncover a possible influence on the Earth’s climate, we need a much longer time series, i.e., the total solar irradiance (TSI) which is also an interesting issue in its own right in solar

Periodicity of Total Solar Irradiance

We investigate the periodicity in the PMOD composite of the daily total solar irradiance (TSI) from 21 September 1978 to 9 June 2009. Besides the Schwabe cycle period (10.32 years), the

Total Solar Irradiance: What Have We Learned from the Last Three Cycles and the Recent Minimum?

The record of total solar irradiance (TSI) during the past 35 years shows similarities of the three solar cycles, but also important differences. During the recent minimum with an unusually long

A measure of the network radiative properties over the solar activity cycle

Magnetic activity contributes to solar irradiance variations, both on short and long time scales. While sunspots and active region faculae are the dominant contributors to irradiance changes on time

Correlation Between the Sunspot Number, the Total Solar Irradiance, and the Terrestrial Insolation

Our study deals with the correlations between the solar activity on the one hand and the solar irradiance above the Earth’s atmosphere and at ground level on the other. We analyzed the combined ACRIM

Solar Irradiance Variability Since 1978

Since November 1978 a set of total solar irradiance (TSI) measurements from space is available, yielding a time series of more than 25 years. Presently, there are three TSI composites available,

WHY IS THE SOLAR CONSTANT NOT A CONSTANT

In order to probe the mechanism of variations of the solar constant on the inter-solar-cycle scale, the total solar irradiance (TSI; the so-called solar constant) in the time interval of 1978
