A sorption apparatus for measuring the equilibrium sorption isotherm and the rate of diffusion of methane from fine-sized coal was designed and constructed. Preliminary work using Pittsburgh and Pocahontas No. 3 coal shows that the diffusion coefficient varies with pressure and that the fracture spacing in these two coals is substantially different. A Model for Determination of Methane Flow Parameters in Coal from Desorption Tests
This paper presents the results of a study of the mechanics of methane gas flow in coal. Desorption tests carried out on cylindrical coal specimens showed that an analytical formulation can be madeExpand
Study of methane gas migration in coal by sorption tests
The research reported in this thesis is concerned with a study of the mechanism of methane gas flow in coal. An indirect method of adsorption-desorption tests was conducted on cylindrical coalExpand
Experimental investigation of pore structure damage in pulverized coal: Implications for methane adsorption and diffusion characteristics
To study the effect of pulverization on coal’s pore structure and the implications for methane adsorption and diffusion properties, three kinds of high volatile bituminous coals were sampled andExpand
Influence of Coal Particle Size on Coal Adsorption and Desorption Characteristics
Accurate testing coal isotherm can play a significant role in the areas of coal seam gas drainage, outburst control, CO 2 geo-sequestration, coalbed methane (CBM) and enhanced coalbed methaneExpand
Gas diffusion coefficient in coal: calculation of tangent slope accuracy through the inflection point determination
This investigation aims to develop an accurate method to calculate the tangent slope (b) - a fundamental parameter to calculate gas diffusion coefficients under different pressures - using inflectionExpand
Experimental Study on Coal Sample's Methane Desorption Law in Different Adsorption Balance Pressures
Taking 7 group anthracite coal samples which size is 1¡«3mm from different coal mines of the same mine field as research objects, there carried coal samples' methane adsorption and desorptionExpand

Experimental investigation on the formation and transport mechanism of outburst coal-gas flow: Implications for the role of gas desorption in the development stage of outburst
Abstract As the one of the most catastrophic hazards in underground mining, coal and gas outburst seriously threatens the safe mining of collieries. To understand the formation and transportExpand
Reservoir properties of Chinese tectonic coal: A review
Abstract Tectonic coal, formed after the intact coal being subjected to long-term intense squeezing, shearing and deformation, is characterised by brittle or ductile damaged coal body, with theExpand
