The known metazoa parasite fauna of the invasive round goby Apollonia melanostoma (formerly Neogobius melanostomus) consists of 12 species. The core of the parasite fauna comprises two species: Cryptocotyle concavum and Diplostomum spathaceum; secondary species are absent; satellite species include Cercariae gen. sp. and Ergasilus sieboldi; rare species are Acanthocephalus lucii, Anguillicola crassus, Bothriocephalus sp., Dichelyne minutus, Hysterothylacium aduncum, Pomphorhynchus laevis…

The round goby Neogobius melanostomus is a bottom-dwelling fish native for the Ponto-Caspian basin, which started to colonize the Baltic Sea since 1991, and the processes of colonization have the same tendency as in the Gulf of Gdańsk.

Insight is given into a potential parasite-host system that consists mainly of invasive species, such as the Ponto-Caspian fish and amphipods in the Rhine, which discusses prospective distribution and migration pathways of non-indigenous vertebrate (round goby) and invertebrates (amphipods) under special consideration of parasite dispersal.

Expansion, Feeding and Parasites of the Round Goby, Neogobius melanostomus (Pallas, 1811), a recent invader in the Curonian Lagoon, Lithuania
- Environmental Science
- 2008
The quantitative food content analysis in the northern part of the Curonian Lagoon suggests that during their first year of life N. melanostomus juveniles rely on chironomid larvae, ostracods and amphipods, while beginning with the second year oflife, mussels, zebra mussels in particular, constitute over a half of their diet.

The species accumulation curves show stable accumulation of parasite species by all four fish hosts along the studied part of the corridor, from the Dnieper Estuary to the Vistula River delta, and reveals that the studied gobies lose the parasites common in the host native range and accept new parasites from the colonized area.
Parasite infection of the non-indigenous round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) in the Baltic Sea
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 2020
Investigating parasite communities and infection rates of the non-indigenous round goby Neogobius melanostomus in two localities in the NE Baltic Sea revealed that infection intensity was positively linked to total body length and parasite species richness, and was on average 2.7 individuals higher in summer and autumn than in winter and spring.

Parasites of the fish Cichla piquiti (Cichlidae) in native and invaded Brazilian basins: release not from the enemy, but from its effects
- Environmental Science, BiologyParasitology Research

The results did not support the idea that the escape from parasites favoured the establishment of C. piquiti in the PR, and the Escape from the parasites' effects seems a better explanation, and further studies examining effects on host physiology and/or fitness in the native and introduced ranges are needed.
