We analyze vacuum decay in brane world setups, where a free scalar field in five dimensions has a localized potential admitting metastable vacua. We study in particular the bounce solution and its properties in flat and warped spaces. In the latter case, placing into a deeply warped region the term in the potential that lifts the vacuum degeneracy, can increase indefinitely the lifetime of the false vacuum. We discuss the application to metastable vacua in supersymmetric brane-world…

Higgs vacuum decay in a braneworld

We examine the effect of large extra dimensions on vacuum decay in the Randall–Sundrum (RS) braneworld paradigm. We assume the scalar field is confined to the brane, and compute the probability for

Metastable vacua and complex deformations

We use the non-normalizable complex deformations to describe the stringy realizations of the metastable vacua in N=1, SU(N{sub c}) SUSY theories with N{sub f}>N{sub c} massive fundamental flavors.

Holographic metastability

We show how supersymmetric QCD in a slice of AdS can naturally acquire metastable vacua. The formulation closely follows that of Intriligator, Seiberg and Shih (ISS), with an “electric” sector on the

Metastable vacua and geometric deformations

We study the geometric interpretation of metastable vacua for systems of D3 branes at non isolated toric deformable singularities. Using the Laba examples, we investigate the relations between the

Warped general gauge mediation

We develop the formalism of "general gauge mediation" for five-dimensional theories in a slice of AdS space. A set of current correlators encodes the effect of a supersymmetry breaking hidden sector

A slice of AdS5 as the large N limit of Seiberg duality

A slice of AdS5 is used to provide a 5D gravitational description of 4D strongly-coupled Seiberg dual gauge theories. An (electric) SU(N) gauge theory in the conformal window at large N is described

Duality and models of supersymmetry breaking

Duality is often most clearly manifest in supersymmetric theories, where the rigid mathematical structure affords good control over the behaviour of the system. In many real-world applications, and

Meta-stable A n quiver gauge theories

We study metastable dynamical breaking of supersymmetry in An quiver gauge theories. We present a general analysis and criteria for the perturbative existence of metastable vacua in quivers of any

Meta-stable supersymmetry breaking in a cooling universe

We look at the recently proposed idea that susy breaking can be accomplished in a meta-stable vacuum. In the context of one of the simplest models (the Seiberg-dual of super-QCD), we address the

Supersymmetry breaking metastable vacua in runaway quiver gauge theories

In this paper we consider quiver gauge theories with fractional branes whose infrared dynamics removes the classical supersymmetric vacua (DSB branes). We show that addition of flavors to these

Brane configurations for nonsupersymmetric meta-stable vacua in SQCD with adjoint matter

We present the configurations of intersecting branes in type IIA string theory corresponding to the meta-stable supersymmetry breaking vacua (Amariti, Girardello and Mariotti 2006 J. High Energy

De Sitter vacua in string theory

We outline the construction of metastable de Sitter vacua of type IIB string theory. Our starting point is highly warped IIB compactifications with nontrivial NS and RR three-form fluxes. By

Direct mediation of metastable supersymmetry breaking

The supersymmetric SU(NC) Yang-Mills theory coupled to NF matter fields in the fundamental representation has metastable vacua with broken supersymmetry when NC<NF<(3/2)NC. By gauging the flavor

Non-supersymmetric meta-stable vacua from brane configurations

We construct configurations of NS-, D4-, and D6-branes in type IIA string theory, realizing the recently discussed non-supersymmetric meta-stable minimum of 4d = 1 SU(Nc) super-Yang-Mills theories

Gauge mediation in metastable vacua

Until recently, dynamical supersymmetry breaking seemed an exceptional phenomenon, involving chiral gauge theories with a special structure. Recently it has become clear that requiring only

Higher dimensional supersymmetry in 4D superspace

We present an explicit formulation of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories from = 5 to 10 dimensions in the familiar = 1, = 4 superspace. This provides the rules for globally supersymmetric model
