The PPAR gamma agonists, thiazolidinediones (TZDs), have anti-inflammatory properties as well as increasing insulin sensitivity. This has widened their therapeutic scope to treat inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis in addition to Type 2 Diabetes.
