Metal resistance in yeast mediated by the expression of a maize 20S proteasome alpha subunit.

Transformation of yeast cells with a maize cDNA ZmPAA, encoding a 20S proteasome alpha-subunit, conferred resistance to nickel, cadmium and cobalt.
