The application of metal ion-exchanged zeolites as highly active and selective catalysts for the synthesis of nopol from the Prins reaction of β-pinene is reported. The catalysts were prepared by an ion-exchange method and characterized by XRD, pyridine-FT-IR, AAS, NH3-TPD and SEM. The Zn-beta catalyst showed the best performance among the different types of zeolites. The acidity of the Zn-beta zeolite was correlated with the amount of zinc and activity of the reaction. For different metal ion…

Superior performance of metal-organic frameworks over zeolites as solid acid catalysts in the Prins reaction: green synthesis of nopol.
TLDR
Its high activity, the preservation of its structure and active sites, and the possibility to use it in at least three catalytic cycles without loss of activity make MIL-100 (Fe) the best performing catalyst of the series for the Prins condensation of β-pinene and paraformaldehyde.
Mesoporous Zr-SBA-15 as a green solid acid catalyst for the Prins reaction
Mesoporous Zr-SBA-15 platelets were prepared with different pore dimensions from 4 to 8 nm by the simple procedure of varying the amount of water in the synthesis gel. Narrow pore size distributions
