Vertical line stimuli, 1 and 3’ in width, were used in a parametric investigation of changes in apparent brightness (masking) as a function of spatial and temporal separation in a metacontrast experiment. For both observers, masking was obtained at spatial separations of as large as 2-3’ of visual angle.
