The tobacco-specific nitrosamine, 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) induces tumor formation in the liver, lung, nasal cavity, and pancreas of rats. Metabolic activation is required for the tumorigenicity of this compound.
