It is a matter of debate whether pancreas allografts independently contribute to renal allograft and patient survival in individuals who have type 1 diabetes and receive a simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplant (SPK). Using data from the Collaborative Transplant Study, we studied patients who had type 1 diabetes and were recipients of deceased-donor kidneys (DDK), living-donor kidneys (LDK), or SPK.
