PURPOSE The use of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) in cardiopulmonary arrest has been questioned, but the effects of NaHCO3 in patients with heart disease are not known. We therefore prospectively evaluated the effects of NaHCO3 in patients with congestive heart failure.
