The nature of metabolic fuel utilization during hibernation and periodic arousal is not completely understood. 2-Deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) and mercaptoacetate (MA) were administered to hibernating ground squirrels. These drugs disrupt glucose and fatty acid oxidation, respectively.
