In view of extending gauge/gravity dualities with flavour beyond the probe approximation, we establish the gravity dual description of mesons for a three-dimensional super Yang-Mills theory with fundamental matter. For this purpose we consider the fully backreacted D2/D6 brane solution of Cherkis and Hashimoto in an approximation due to Pelc and Siebelink. The low-energy field theory is the IR fixed point theory of three-dimensional N=4 SU(N_c) super Yang-Mills with N_f fundamental fields…

Mesons in gauge/gravity duals

Abstract. We review recent progress in studying mesons within gauge/gravity duality, in the context of adding flavour degrees of freedom to generalizations of the AdS/CFT correspondence. Our main

Holographic mesons in various dimensions

Following the analysis of [1], we calculate the spectrum of fluctuations of a probe Dk-brane in the background of N Dp-branes, for k = p,p+2,p+4 and p<5. The result corresponds to the mesonic

Canonical coordinates and meson spectra for scalar deformed Script N = 4 SYM from the AdS/CFT correspondence

Two points on the Coulomb branch of N = 4 super Yang Mills are investigated using their supergravity duals. By switching on condensates for the scalars in the N = 4 multiplet with a form which

Flavoured Large N Gauge Theory in an External Magnetic Field

We consider a D7-brane probe of AdS$_{5}\times S^5$ in the presence of pure gauge $B$-field. In the dual gauge theory, the $B$-field couples to the fundamental matter introduced by the D7-brane and

Three-dimensional super Yang-Mills with unquenched flavor

A bstractWe construct analytically the gravity duals of three-dimensional, super Yang-Mills-type theories with N=1$$ \mathcal{N}=1 $$ supersymmetry coupled to Nf quark flavors. The backreaction of

D3-D7 background and flavor dependence of Regge trajectories

In the context of AdS/CFT with flavor, we consider the type IIB supergravity solution corresponding to a fully localized D3/D7 intersection. We complete the standard metric ansatz by providing an

Holographic heavy-light mesons from non-Abelian DBI

In the context of gauge/gravity duals with flavor, we examine heavy-light mesons which involve a heavy and a light quark. For this purpose we embed two D7 brane probes at different positions into the

External fields and the dynamics of fundamental flavours in holographic duals of large N gauge theories

Using the gauge-gravity duality we study strongly coupled dynamics of fundamental flavours in large N_c gauge theories in a constant external field. We primarily focus on the effects of an external

Non-critical holography and four-dimensional CFT's with fundamentals

We find non-critical string backgrounds in five and eight dimensions, holographically related to four-dimensional conformal field theories with = 0 and = 1 supersymmetries. In the five-dimensional

Fundamental matter, meson spectroscopy and non-critical string/gauge duality

We discuss the incorporation of quarks in the fundamental representation of the color group into the non-critical string/gauge duality. We focus on confining theories and address this question using

Meson Spectroscopy in AdS/CFT with Flavour

We compute the meson spectrum of an = 2 super Yang-Mills theory with fundamental matter from its dual string theory on AdS5 × S5 with a D7-brane probe [1]. For scalar and vector mesons with arbitrary

Towards a holographic dual of large- N c QCD

We study N f D6-brane probes in the supergravity background dual to N c D4-branes compactified on a circle with supersymmetry-breaking boundary conditions. In the limit in which the resulting

Chiral symmetry breaking and pions in nonsupersymmetric gauge / gravity duals

We study gravity duals of large N nonsupersymmetric gauge theories with matter in the fundamental representation by introducing a D7-brane probe into deformed AdS backgrounds. In particular, we

Holography and defect conformal field theories

We develop both the gravity and field theory sides of the Karch-Randall conjecture that the near-horizon description of a certain D5-D3 brane configuration in string theory, realized as AdS_5 x S^5

Evaluation of glueball masses from supergravity

In the framework of the conjectured duality relation between large {ital N} gauge theory and supergravity the spectra of masses in large {ital N} gauge theory can be determined by solving certain

Glueball mass spectrum from supergravity

We calculate the spectrum of glueball masses in non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in three and four dimensions, based on a conjectured duality between supergravity and large N gauge theories. The

We construct backreacted D3/D7 supergravity backgrounds which are dual to four-dimensional N = 1 and N = 2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills at large Nc with ∞avor quarks in the fundamental representation of

Intersecting D3-branes and holography

We study a defect conformal field theory describing D3-branes intersecting over two space-time dimensions. This theory admits an exact Lagrangian description which includes both two- and
