In vitro plantlets and callus of M. longifolia were established and their volatile constituents characterized by GC-MS analysis of their headspaces (HSs) and essential oils (EOs). Significant quali-quantitative differences were found in the aromatic fingerprints in comparison with the M. longifolia parent plants. In fact, limonene and carvone were the main constituents in the EOs of the mother plants, while the aroma of the in vitro plant material were especially enriched in oxygenated terpenes… Expand
Enhancing bioactive potential by growth regulators in callus of Mentha longifolia L. leaves for anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities
TLDR
Unexpected higher anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities by callus extracts can be attributed to their phenolic composition. Expand
Horsemint as a potential raw material for the food industry: survey on the chemistry of a less studied mint species
Horsemint (Mentha longifolia L), is wild-growing species, widespread in Eurasia and Africa. The review focuses on its potential utilization as a preservative and flavoring in the food industry basedExpand
Individual Monitoring to Study Organ and Diurnal Variations in Mentha longifolia L.
TLDR
The most noteworthy result was the differences found related to meteorological conditions, which means, hot and dry periods could have a different and relevant influence on volatile chemical profile according to the M. longifolia chemotype. Expand
Essential Oils of Mint between Benefits and Hazards
TLDR
The essential oil from M. longifolia demonstrated strong antibacterial activity against all tested plant and human bacterial pathogens, followed by apple mint, supporting ancient Egyptians believes and traditional folk. Expand
C HEMICAL C OMPOSITION AND A NTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF E SSENTIAL OIL OF M ENTHA LONGIFOLIA L OF MEKELE , E THIOPIA

TLC-GC/MS Method for identifying and selecting valuable essential Oil Chemotypes from Wild Populations of Mentha longifolia L.
TLDR
A TLC-GC/MS method has been proposed in order to identify chemotypes occurring in a selected wild population of aromatic plants and all of them could be clearly identified as belonging to chemotype E, which was afterwards confirmed by GC/MS analysis. Expand
Pharmacological activity of Mentha longifolia and its phytoconstituents.
TLDR
The plant showed therapeutic benefits in irritable bowel syndrome, amenorrhea and oligomenorrhea, and oxidative stress-associated diseases as well, and can be considered as novel medicinal sources for developing new drugs. Expand
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF ESSENTIAL OIL OF MENTHA LONGIFOLIA L OF MEKELE, ETHIOPIA
INTRODUCTION The genus of Mentha, includes 20 species that spread all over the world. Mentha longifolia or wild mint in the Lamiaceae family is a fast-growing perennial herb is distributed in variousExpand
Individual sampling approach to study the chemodiversity of volatile and semivolatile compounds of Mentha longifolia L. growing wild in Jiloca basin (Spain)
TLDR
The results support the advisability of individual sampling instead of mixing material from randomly selected individuals, in order to identify and make available selected chemotypes for their propagation, particularly useful for applied purposes based on relationships between chemical composition and biological activity. Expand
Benzoquinones in the defensive secretion of a bug (Pamillia behrensii): a common chemical trait retrieved in the Heteroptera
TLDR
The metathoracic scent gland secretion of the mirid bug Pamillia behrensii is described, which underpins the widespread convergent evolution and use of benzoquinones for defense across the Arthropoda, now including the order Hemiptera. Expand

Antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of three Mentha species essential oils.
TLDR
The present study describes the antimicrobial activity and free radical scavenging capacity (RSC) of essential oils from Mentha aquatica L., Mentha longifolia L., and Mentha piperita L, and the most powerful scavenging compounds were monoterpene ketones (menthone and isomenthone) in the essential oils of M.Longifolia and M. aquatica. Volatile Extract of Mentha longifolia Growing in Israel. Aromatic Plants of the Holy Land and the Sinai. Part XIII
TLDR
Despite some differences in the component proportions, the plants of all three populations clearly belong to the same chemotype, distinct from the previously-studied Mount Sinai and Judean desert varieties of M. longifolia. Expand
Antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of the essential oils and methanol extract from Mentha longifolia L. ssp. longifolia
TLDR
The essential oil showed strong antimicrobial activity against all 30 microorganisms tested whereas the methanol extract almost remained inactive, and the extract showed much better activity than the essential oil in antioxidant activity assays employed, e.g. in the inhibition of free radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and β-carotene/linoleic acid systems. Expand
Antioxidant properties and composition of aqueous extracts from Mentha species, hybrids, varieties, and cultivars.
TLDR
It appeared that the level of activity identified was strongly associated with the phenolic content, with the M. x piperita "Frantsila" extract being better than the other extracts, except for ferrous iron chelation. Expand
