The system equivalent flux density of the SKA specified by Aeff/Tsys = 12000 m 2 K is S ≈ 0.23 Jy. Given a 25% bandwidth at 1.4 GHz (B ≈ 350 MHz), the noise floor in a total-intensity continuum image should be only σn ≈ 9 nJy beam −1 after τ ≈ 1 megasecond (≈ 280 hours) of integration. However, the sensitivity of SKA images might be limited by systematic errors caused by (1) natural confusion from overlapping faint sources or (2) insufficient dynamic range.
