We have used the whole-cell patch-clamp technique to characterize the ionic conductances that determine the resting membrane potential in cultured endothelial cells from calf pulmonary artery (CPAE cells). 2. Resting membrane potentials were scattered between -88 and +5 mV with a mean +/- S.E.M. of -26 +/- 3 mV (n = 104). 3.
