The pineal secretory product melatonin reportedly regulates release of growth hormone in humans and prevents phototherapy-induced hypocalcemia in newborn rats, suggesting that melatonin affects bone metabolism. Little is known about the effects of melatonin on bone in vitro or in vivo.
