The aim of this investigation was to study whether melatonin affects the release of oxytocin and vasopressin by the pituitary neurointermediate lobe of the Syrian hamster in vitro. The effect of melatonin was studied on the unstimulated (pre- and post-K+ -stimulated) release of oxytocin and vasopressin and on the response to K+ stimulation.
