Records of 73 patients with medullary thyroid cancer were reviewed to assess prognostic factors and the role of external beam radiation therapy. Patients were treated between 1954 and 1992. The median age was 49 years (range 15-85), M:F ratio 1.6:1, and the median follow-up was 7.9 years. (2.5-34.6). The primary tumor size was < 1 cm in 10%, 1-4 cm in 53%, and > 4 cm in 37%.
