The ketogenic diet (KD) is one of the most effective therapies for drug-resistant epilepsy. The efficacy of the medium-chain triglyceride KD (MCTKD) is as excellent as the classic KD (CKD), which has been documented in several subsequent retrospective, prospective, and randomized studies. MCT oil is more ketogenic than long-chain triglycerides. Therefore, the MCTKD allows more carbohydrate and protein food, which makes the diet more palatable than the CKD. The MCTKD is not based on diet ratios…

The place of a ketogenic diet in the treatment of resistant epilepsy: a comprehensive review.
- MedicineNutritional neuroscience
- 2022
It is argued that KD is one of the most effective treatments for epilepsy and the fact that KDs generally have a restricted diet pattern, the need for supplementation, biochemical findings and possible side effects raise the issue of diet sustainability.
Ketogenic Diet Therapy for Epilepsy Management

The ketogenic diet (KD) is a high-fat, adequate-protein and very low-carb diet regimen that simulates/mimics the metabolism of the fasting state to stimulate the production of ketone bodies. KD has…
Ketogenic diet for human diseases: the underlying mechanisms and potential for clinical implementations

It is suggested that, with encouraging evidence of therapeutic effects and increasing insights into the mechanisms of action, randomized controlled trials should be conducted to elucidate a foundation for the clinical use of the ketogenic diet.
Ketogenic diets: Opportunities and limitations in practical application (LITERATURE REVIEW)
- MedicineArchiv Euromedica

The literature review provides evidence for KD efficiency in reduction of epileptic seizures in children and adults, but the majority of research and the professional communities of dietologists warn of adverse health effects of KD when used for other conditions.
