Meditation: its Tremendous Impact on Heart Rate Variability

  title={Meditation: its Tremendous Impact on Heart Rate Variability},
  author={Veena Hegde},
The heart is connected through the nervous system directly to major organs and is able to sense their need. The heart also responds to adrenaline in the blood flowing through it. With these inputs the heart is able to adjust its rate to accommodate the needs of the whole body. By its heartbeat, it is able to broadcast a common signal to every cell. One measure of heart health is Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV is defined in terms of how different the lengths of time between each heart beat is…

Analysis of the dynamics of heart rate before and during meditation to investigate the effect of meditation on heart rate regulation shows that the heart rate fluctuations decrease during meditation, and the heart rates rhythm becomes more regular.
Significance Analysis of Different TimeDomain Measures Of HRV to DifferentiateNormal and On-Music States
It is found that in both of normal/pre-music and on-music HRV states, all the measures show significant difference as a whole; the problem remains to identify exactly the measures, which cause the significant difference.

Scale Invariant Properties in Heart Rate Signals
The multifractality in the heart rate signal is weakened: the spectrum is narrower and moved to higher values what indicate the higher activity of the sympatethic nervous system.
Heart rate variability as an index of autonomic heart regulation in acute myocardial infarction patients
Analysis of the experimental data from 36 coronary patients showed high prognostic value of HRV spectral characteristics for the prediction of acute myocardial infarction outcome.
Breakdown of Long-Range Correlations in Heart Rate Fluctuations During Meditation
Study of the scaling features of heart rate variability during meditation reveals that the induced mental relaxation introduces substantial loss of complexity at larger scales, which indicates a change in the physiological mechanisms involved.
Estimation of the power spectral density in nonstationary cardiovascular time series: assessing the role of the time-frequency representations (TFR)
The preliminary application of the selected methods to real RR interval time series obtained during some autonomic tests has shown that the TFR are capable to correctly represent the transient of the series in the joint time-frequency domain.
Use of the Wigner‐Ville distribution in interpreting and identifying ULF waves in triaxial magnetic records
[1] Magnetospheric ultra-low-frequency (ULF) waves (f = 1 mHz to 1 Hz) exhibit highly time-dependent characteristics due to the dynamic properties of these waves and, for observations in space, the
