Use of prescription and nonprescription medications is common during pregnancy and is required in many women with underlying kidney disease or hypertension and in all with solid-organ allografts. Systematic assessment of drug safety during pregnancy is lacking, as are rigorous and comprehensive studies of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics to guide drug selection and dosing across pregnancy.
