Chronic pelvic pain is a symptom of poorly understood aetiology. Pelvic congestion and psychological factors have been identified as important aetiological factors but surprisingly few studies of therapies directed at these aetiologies have been performed. A limited number of trials suggest that the progestagen medroxyprogesterone acetate may be useful in relieving symptoms, but benefit may be restricted to duration of treatment only.
