Transport of infants remains a part of any system providing neonatal care. The organizational aspects and the staffing will depend on the structure of services, but the principles of good information, stabilization and sound medical management during the transfer are universal. These principles are discussed in this article, focusing on the practical aspects of managing an infant from the point of the first telephone contact from the referring hospital to the handover at the receiving unit.
