Chronic alcoholism is associated with a high prevalence of riboflavin deficiency. Experiments were designed in an animal model to determine whether ethanol alters selectively the absorption of riboflavin and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), the predominant dietary form of the vitamin.
