Cysteine conjugate transport plays a key role in the interorgan transport of xenobitoic metabolites which are formed via the mercapturic acid pathway. In the rat, transport of cysteine conjugates could be an important factor in the selective nephrotoxicity of some toxic cysteine conjugates.
