BACKGROUND Patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease (C-CHD) usually have myocardial thickening and fibrosis, both of which can affect the course of surgical management. Hypoxia and ischemia may stimulate microvessel formation in the myocardium, which may accelerate the myocardial thickening and fibrosis.
