Previous study demonstrated that Chang Run Tong (CRT) could partly restore the colon remodeling in streptozotocin- (STZ-) induced diabetic rats. Here we investigated the mechanisms of such effects of CRT. Diabetes was induced by a single injection of 40 mg/kg of STZ. CRT was poured into the stomach by gastric lavage once daily for 60 days. The remodeling parameters were obtained from diabetic (DM), CRT treated diabetic (T1, 50 g/kg; T2, 25 g/kg), and normal (Con) rats. Expressions of advanced…

Diabetes-induced mechanophysiological changes in the small intestine and colon
TLDR
The understanding of DM-induced changes in the gut and the subsequent clinical consequences are increased to provide the clinicians with a better understanding of the GI disorders in diabetic patients and facilitates treatments tailored to these patients.

Effect of tangweian jianji on upper gastrointestinal remodeling in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.
TLDR
The blood glucose level was significantly higher and the serum insulinlevel was significantly lower in DM, T1 and T2 groups than in the control group, and the wet weight per unit length, wall thickness and opening angle of esophageal and intestinal segments in the DM group were significantly higher than those in the Control group.
Effect of chang run tong on the biomechanical and morphometric remodeling of colon and rectum in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
TLDR
CRT (high dose) treatment could partly restore the morphometric and biomechanical remodeling of the lower gastrointestinal tract in diabetic rats.
Biomechanical and Histomorphometric Colon Remodelling in STZ-Induced Diabetic Rats
TLDR
The observed changes in residual strain, opening angle, and stress–strain relation may be contributing factors to colonic dysfunction and abdominal pain in diabetic patients.
Up-Regulated Expression of Advanced Glycation End-Products and Their Receptor in the Small Intestine and Colon of Diabetic Rats
TLDR
The expression of AGE and RAGE is up-regulated in the small intestine and colon of diabetic rats and the increased AGEand RAGE levels may contribute to diabetic GI dysfunction.

TLDR
In summary, metabolic, hemodynamic, and genetic factors are all important in the development and progression of diabetic nephropathy and the growth factor TGF-beta has emerged as a key participant in the cascade of events which leads to kidney sclerosis.
Advanced glycation end-product expression is upregulated in the gastrointestinal tract of type 2 diabetic rats.
TLDR
The intensity of AGE staining in mucosa of all segments and RAGEStaining in neurons in all segments were strongest in the diabetes group, and the layer thickness of the GI tract was higher for esophagus, jejunum and colon in the GK group.
The Transforming Growth Factor-β Pathway Is a Common Target of Drugs That Prevent Experimental Diabetic Retinopathy
TLDR
Oxidative and inflammatory stress is the distinct signature that the polyol pathway leaves on retinal vessels, and TGF-β and apoptosis are the ultimate targets to prevent the capillary demise in diabetic retinopathy.
Effects of Allium victorialis leaf extracts and its single compounds on aldose reductase, advanced glycation end products and TGF-β1 expression in mesangial cells
TLDR
The results suggest that active compounds isolated from A. victorialis leaf exhibit inhibitory effects on AR activity in rat lenses and AGE formation, which makes it a good candidate for the development of treatments for diabetic nephropathy.
