This paper presents a survey of the results of experimental and theoretical studies in the field of high-speed penetration into soil media, which were obtained in the Institute for Problems in Mechanics, Russian Academy of Sciences. New methods for determining the dynamic parameters of such media are proposed. The laws of trajectory refraction and ricochet in oblique penetration of a single body or a group of bodies into an elastoplastic medium are studies and the phenomenon of partial ricochet…
Dynamic deformation of soft soil media: Experimental studies and mathematical modeling
A complex experimental-theoretical approach to studying the problem of high-rate strain of soft soil media is presented. This approach combines the following contemporary methods of dynamical tests:
Shape optimization of high-speed penetrators: a review
In spite of a large number of publications on shape optimization of penetrating projectiles there are no dedicated surveys of these studies. The goal of the present review is to close this gap. The
Advances in Projectile Penetration Mechanism in Soil Media
The penetration to geological shield occurs in many situations at various velocities and scales, for example, meteor-cratering, pile driving, falling of objects from high-rise building construction,
Modeling Clam-inspired Burrowing in Dry Sand using Cavity Expansion Theory and DEM
The Atlantic razor clam exhibits exceptional penetration performance in wet sands by periodically expanding and contracting its shell and foot during burrowing. Essentially, this periodic penetration

Cavitating penetration of a plastic medium by bodies of minimum resistance
A model of 3D dynamics of a body of revolution interacting with low-strength media and nonsymmetric cavitation
An approximate mathematical model is constructed for 3D motion of a body of revolution in a low-strength medium (of soil type) with nonsymmetric separation of flow. We postulate a relationship
Transonic flow of an elastic medium past a thin solid
Stability, Paths, and Dynamic bending of a Blunt Body of Revolution Penetrating into an Elastoplastic Medium
The deep penetration of a thin body with a blunt nose and rear into a low‐strength medium is explored. The motion of the body is described by a system of autonomous integrodifferential equations
Supersonic flow of a porous medium past a cone
The problem of a symmetric flow past a cone is considered for a dense medium with an attached shock wave. The medium is described by the state equation for a fluid with a nonlinear compressibility
In the relatively new science of soil mechanics the soil penetrometer, introduced in Holland in 1932, has been shown to be a rapid and practical testing appliance and this book gives a very
Oblique penetration of a rigid projectile into an elastic-plastic target
Motion of a body near a free surface of a fluid or plastic medium
Various cases of motion of a body near a free surface of a fluid have been thoroughly studied in great detail in connection with the problem of finding the forces that act on such a body, provided
Classification of trajectories of the plane-parallel motion of an axisymmetric body in a strong medium with flow separation
Various scenarios for the motion of a thin pointed body in an elastoplastic medium for an asymmetric separation are presented for various values of initial perturbations, body shape, and separation
