A source of entangled photons based on well-separated laser pump pulses (PDs) with a duration in the nanosecond range may be useful in many applications. Yet, such a source has intrinsic problems arising from the simultaneous arrival of signal and noise photons to the detectors, which makes the methods unsuitable for dealing with accidental (or spurious) coincidences applied in the continuous-wave or mode-locked pump regimes. Those problems are analyzed, and practical methods to calculate the…

A novel time stamping data acquisition system using a digital oscilloscope for single photon counting

An algorithm of signal processing is presented that allows the use of a PC-based oscilloscope in order to count events with a time stamping register that has a direct use on recording of arrival times of individual photons detected on one or more detection channels in quantum optics experiments.

Locality, Realism, Ergodicity and Randomness in Bell’s Experiment

Assuming that there is no way of sending signals propagating faster than light and that free will exists, the loophole-free observed violation of Bell’s inequalities demonstrates that at least one of

Proposal to Test a Transient Deviation from Quantum Mechanics’ Predictions for Bell’s Experiment

It is hypothesized that the high quantum correlations develop only after a time longer than L/c has elapsed, where L is the spread of the entangled state and c is the velocity of light, and a simple hidden variables model following this hypothesis is described.

Measurement of entropy and quantum coherence properties of two type-I entangled photonic qubits

Using the type-I SPDC process in BBO nonlinear crystal, we generate a polarization-entangled state near to the maximally-entangled Bell-state with high-visibility (high-brightness) 98.50 ± 1.33%

Using Randomness to decide among Locality, Realism and Ergodicity

The recently performed loophole-free tests have demonstrated that at least one of three properties is false in Nature when Bell's inequalities are experimentally violated: Locality, Realism or (what

Using Measured Values in Bell's Inequalities Entails at Least One Hypothesis in Addition to Local Realism

The reason why such a hypothesis in addition to local realism is necessary is reviewed, and a simple example shows that the violation of the additional hypothesis is necessary, but not sufficient, to violate Bell's inequalities without violating local realism.

Broadband photon pair generation at 3ω/2

We experimentally demonstrate a method for creating broad bandwidth photon pairs in the visible spectral region, centered at a frequency that is higher than that of the initial pump source.

Time-resolved measurement of Bell inequalities and the coincidence loophole

We report an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-Bohm experiment with a pulsed source of entangled pairs of photons, recording the time of arrival of the pulses and of the detection of each single photon. This

It is shown that the down-converted light is spatially incoherent in the second order, and that the signal-idler fourth-order coherence extends over finite entanglement angles.
