There is a growing need for ranking universities, departments, research groups, and individual scholars. Usually, the scientific community measures the scientific merits of the researchers by using a variety of indicators that take into account both the productivity of scholars and the impact of their publications. We propose the t-index, the new indicator to measure the scientific merits of the individual researchers. The proposed t-index takes into account the number of citations, number of… Expand

Efficiency analysis of forestry journals: Suggestions for improving journals' quality
TLDR
By modifying certain inputs associated with the productivity of forestry journals, it is illustrated how this method could be utilized to raise their efficiency, which in terms of research impact can then be translated into an increase of their bibliometric indices, such as the h-index, IF or eigenfactor score. Assessing technical and cost efficiency of research activities: A case study of the Italian university system
TLDR
This paper employs data envelopment analysis (DEA) to assess both technical and cost efficiency of research activities of the Italian university system, and typically shows much variation in the rankings of the disciplinary areas within and across universities, depending on the efficiency indicator employed. The AR-index: complementing the h-index
6 The h-index was introduced by J. E. Hirsch (2005) as an indicator for lifetime achievement. Considering a scientists list of publications, ranked according to the number of citations received, theExpand
Is it possible to compare researchers with different scientific interests?
TLDR
This work has obtained the rank plots of h and h I for four Brazilian scientific communities and found the h I index rank plots collapse into a single curve allowing comparison among different research areas. Expand
Quantity versus impact of software engineering papers: a quantitative study
TLDR
The results show that the distribution of SE publications has a major inequality in terms of impact overall, and also when categorized interms of the above four aspects, which has implications for improvement of academic reward systems. Expand
AN EXPERIMENT IN THE USE OF DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS FOR EVALUATING THE EFFICIENCY OF UK UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS OF ACCOUNTING
One problem in evaluating the efficiency of public sector organisations is the lack of a single index of efficiency, such as profit, by which a significant element of aggregate performance of eachExpand
A field-standardized application of DEA to national-scale research assessment of universities
The current work proposes an application of DEA methodology for measurement of technical and allocative efficiency of university research activity. The analysis is based on bibliometric data from theExpand

INVESTIGATING TECHNICAL AND SCALE EFFICIENCIES OF AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITIES THROUGH DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS
Performance indicators in the public sector have often been criticised for being inadequate and not conducive to analysing efficiency. The main objective of this study is to use data envelopmentExpand
Measuring the efficiency of British universities: a multi‐period data envelopment analysis
This paper uses data envelopment analysis to examine the technical efficiency (TE) of 45 British universities in the period 1980/81–1992/93. This period was chosen primarily because it wasExpand
