The light yield and the time resolution of different types of 3 m long scintillating bars instrumented with wavelength shifting fibres and read out by different models of silicon photomultipliers have been measured at a test beam at the T9 area at the CERN Proton Synchrotron. The results obtained with different configurations are presented. A time resolution better than 800 ps, constant along the bar length within 20%, and a light yield of 0∼ 14 (70) photoelectrons are obtained for bars 3 m…

Wavelength-shifter coated polystyrene as an easy-to-build and low-cost plastic scintillator detector

: We studied the light yield of a pure polystyrene slide coated with wavelength-shifter molecules, coupled to a photomultiplier, using 𝛽 − particles from a 90 Sr source, as a possible easy-to-build,

Baby MIND: a magnetized segmented neutrino detector for the WAGASCI experiment

T2K (Tokai-to-Kamioka) is a long-baseline neutrino experiment in Japan designed to study various parameters of neutrino oscillations. A near detector complex (ND280) is located 280 m downstream of

Status of the Design of an Annihilation Detector to Observe Neutron-Antineutron Conversions at the European Spallation Source

The goal of the HIBEAM/NNBAR program is to search for baryon number violation via the conversion or oscillation of neutrons into sterile neutrons and/or antineutrons at the European Spallation

Novel Design features of the Baby MIND Detector for T59-WAGASCI experiment

Baby MIND is a magnetized iron neutrino detector, planned to serve as a downstream magnetized muon spectrometer for the WAGASCI experiment, on the T2K neutrino beam line in Japan. Access restrictions

FNAL-NICADD extruded scintillator

The possibility to produce a scintillator that satisfies the demands of physicists from different science areas has emerged with the installation of an extrusion line at FNAL (Fermi National

NUV Silicon Photomultipliers With High Detection Efficiency and Reduced Delayed Correlated-Noise

In this paper, we present the characteristics and performances of new silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs), produced at FBK, for the near-ultraviolet (NUV) light detection, with reduced afterpulsing and

Belle II Technical Design Report

The Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider has collected almost 1 billion Y(4S) events in its decade of operation. Super-KEKB, an upgrade of KEKB is under construction, to increase the

Searching for new green wavelength shifters in polystyrene

A series of commercially available fluorescent compounds was tested as wavelength shifters in polystyrene for the tile/fiber SDC calorimeter. The objective was to find a green-fluorescing compound

A facility to Search for Hidden Particles (SHiP) at the CERN SPS

A new general purpose fixed target facility is proposed at the CERN SPS accelerator which is aimed at exploring the domain of hidden particles and make measurements with tau neutrinos. Hidden
