On 30 October 2017, an outbreak of measles started in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine (NA) region in France among Bordeaux University students before spreading to other regions. Until 1 July 2018, 1,101 cases were reported in NA, including 98 complications and two deaths. Cases were related to clusters (e.g. students, healthcare workers) in 16%; 81% of cases were not vaccinated against measles as recommended. Vaccination coverage above herd immunity threshold remains the main preventative outbreak…

Measles outbreak, Montenegro January–July 2018: Lessons learned
TLDR
The most recent measles epidemic in Montenegro is described using the epidemiological data collected from January 1 to July 31, 2018 and showed how a vaccine‐preventable communicable disease outbreak can have a dramatic impact and severe consequences on regional public health system performance in terms of the sanitary spending point of view.
Measles Outbreak in a Roma Community in the Eastern Region of Slovakia, May to October 2018
TLDR
This outbreak can outline the existence of a vulnerable group of the Roma, a group of persons living in socially closed communities with low vaccination coverage, affecting the Roma communities in relation to the existing immunity gaps.
Measles among healthcare workers in Italy: is it time to act?
TLDR
It is suggested that preventing measles infection among HCWs in disease outbreaks may be crucial for the elimination of measles in Italy.
The impact of local vaccine coverage and recent incidence on measles transmission in France between 2009 and 2018
TLDR
The association found between local vaccine coverage and incidence suggests that, although regional vaccine uptake can be hard to collect and unreliable because of population movements, it can provide insights into the risks of imminent outbreak.
The impact of local vaccine coverage and recent incidence on measles transmission in France between 2009 and 2018
TLDR
Local vaccine uptake was a reliable indicator of the intensity of transmission in France, and spatiotemporal variations in vaccine coverage, caused by disruptions in routine immunisation programmes, or lower trust in vaccines, can lead to large increases in both local and cross-regional transmission.
Letter to the editor: Measles cases among fully vaccinated persons

Euro surveillance : bulletin Europeen sur les maladies transmissibles = European communicable disease bulletin
  • 2018
TLDR
The proportion of measles cases who were fully vaccinated with two doses of measles-mumps-rubellacontaining vaccine was higher than what was observed in France during the much larger epidemic that occurred between 2008 and 2011.
Measles and rubella serosusceptibity among population vaccinated with different schedules: the potential impact on measles-rubella elimination in Iran
TLDR
Despite the high coverage rate of M-R containing vaccines, a significant number of vaccinated subjects were seronegative for measles and rubella, possibly because of secondary vaccine failure; this may negatively affect measles-rubella elimination targets in the country.
Measles Virus Infection and Immunity in a Suboptimal Vaccination Coverage Setting
TLDR
Sera from fully vaccinated subjects cross-neutralized epidemic MeV strains, including the genotypes B3, D4, and D8, with the same high efficiency demonstrated against the vaccine strain support the use of the current measles-containing vaccines and strategies to strengthen vaccination.
MEASLES TRANSMISSION IN A FULLY VACCINATED CLOSED COHORT: Data From a Nosocomial Clustered Cases in a Teenage Psychiatric Unit.
TLDR
C nosocomially clustered cases of measles secondary to a nonvaccinated index case occurring in a teenage psychiatric unit despite optimum vaccine coverage are described, limiting the risk of complicated measles and the onset of a large outbreak.
Procedure for assessing risks of an infectious disease being imported and spread in the RF regions exemplified with measles in 2018
The authors describe a procedure for assessing risks of the measles virus being imported and spread in certain RF regions; they also give results of test risk assessment in 2018 in relation to the

TLDR
Atypical clinical presentation and severe complications, mainly among adults, in combination with late notification, low or unknown vaccination coverage of contacts, infected healthcare workers and increased workload due to contact tracing, are the main concerns for outbreak management.
Measles outbreak in a tertiary level hospital, Porto, Portugal, 2018: challenges in the post-elimination era.
TLDR
Up to 22 April, 96 cases were confirmed, 67 in vaccinated healthcare workers, mostly between 18-39 years old, in Porto, Portugal, and no common epidemiological link was identified.
Ongoing outbreak with well over 4,000 measles cases in Italy from January to end August 2017 − what is making elimination so difficult?
TLDR
The highest incidence was in infants below one year of age and 7% of cases occurred among healthcare workers, and wide immunity gaps and nosocomial transmission are major challenges to measles elimination in Italy.
Measles Elimination Efforts and 2008–2011 Outbreak, France
TLDR
Although vaccine coverage among children improved, convincing susceptible young adults to get vaccinated remains a critical issue if the target to eliminate the disease by 2015 is to be met.
Resurgence risk for measles, mumps and rubella in France in 2018 and 2020
TLDR
The overall outbreak risk for France in 2018 was highest for mumps, remained significant for measles despite a recent measles outbreak and was low for rubella, while the high risk for teenagers and young adults is of concern.
Measles Outbreak Among Previously Immunized Healthcare Workers, the Netherlands, 2014.
TLDR
None of the twice-vaccinated cases had severe measles, and none had onward transmission, consistent with laboratory findings suggesting a secondary immune response, and Improving 2-dose MMR coverage among HCWs would have likely reduced the size of this outbreak.
