Maximum likelihood estimation of skew t-copula

title={Maximum likelihood estimation of skew t-copula},
  author={Toshinao Yoshiba},
We construct a copula from the multivariate skew t-distribution of Azzalini and Capitanio (2003). This copula can capture asymmetric and extreme dependence between variables, and it is one of the few that is effective when the number of dimensions is high. However, two problems arise when estimating the parameters by maximum likelihood estimation. Here, we solve these problems and provide a concrete maximum likelihood estimation algorithm. We test our solution by simulating trivariate data with… Expand

Modeling Dependence Using Skew T Copulas: Bayesian Inference and Applications
We construct a copula from the skew t distribution of Sahu, Dey & Branco (2003). This copula can capture asymmetric and extreme dependence between variables, and is one of the few copulas that can doExpand
Parameter Estimation and Application of the Multivariate Skew t-Copula
Copula theory has got a rapid development in recent years. Most used copulas are symmetric: Archimedean are symmetric by construction while other continuous multivariate copulas are usuallyExpand
The t copula and related copulas
Summary The t copula and its properties are described with a focus on issues related to the dependence of extreme values. The Gaussian mixture representation of a multivariate t distribution is usedExpand
A new class of multivariate skew distributions with applications to Bayesian regression models
The authors develop a new class of distributions by introducing skewness in multivariate ellip- tically symmetric distributions. The class, which is obtained by using transformation and conditioning,Expand
Is the Potential for International Diversi?cation Disappearing? A Dynamic Copula Approach
International equity markets are characterized by nonlinear dependence and asymmetries. We propose a new dynamic asymmetric copula model to capture long-run and short-run dependence, multivariateExpand
Distributions generated by perturbation of symmetry with emphasis on a multivariate skew t‐distribution
Summary. A fairly general procedure is studied to perturb a multivariate density satisfying a weak form of multivariate symmetry, and to generate a whole set of non-symmetric densities. The approachExpand
The multivariate skew-normal distribution
SUMMARY The paper extends earlier work on the so-called skew-normal distribution, a family of distributions including the normal, but with an extra parameter to regulate skewness. The present workExpand
The Generalized Hyperbolic Skew Student’s t-Distribution
In this article we argue for a special case of the generalized hyperbolic (GH) family that we denote as the GH skew Student's t-distribution. This distribution has the important property that oneExpand
Multivariate t Distributions and Their Applications
types of nonstationarity, global modeling and local stationary approaches in nonstationary covariance models. Chapter 9 concludes with space–time separable covariance functions and various approachesExpand
Tail dependence for two skew t distributions
We examine two bivariate skew t distributions, both of which generalize the bivariate symmetric t distribution. The second, based on the bivariate skew normal distribution, always displays positiveExpand
