Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) fruit is a model to study molecular basis of fleshy fruit development and ripening. We profiled gene expression during fruit development (immature green and mature green fruit) and ripening (breaker stage onwards) program to obtain a global perspective of genes whose expression is modulated at each stage of fruit development and ripening. A custom made cDNA macroarray containing cDNAs representing various metabolic pathways, defense, signaling, transcription…
Comparative Analysis of Fruit Transcriptome in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Genotypes with Contrasting Lycopene Contents
TLDR
The results clearly demonstrate the role of specific genes in accumulation of high lycopene in the EC-521086 tomato genotype during the fruit ripening processes.
Integrative Comparative Analyses of Transcript and Metabolite Profiles from Pepper and Tomato Ripening and Development Stages Uncovers Species-Specific Patterns of Network Regulatory Behavior[W][OA]
TLDR
The results suggest that both fruits have similar ethylene-mediated signaling components; however, their regulation is different and may reflect altered ethylene sensitivity or regulators other than ethylene in pepper.
Proteomic and metabolomic study of wax apple (Syzygium samarangense) fruit during ripening process
TLDR
This is the first study investigating the changes in the proteins and metabolites in wax apple at different developmental stages and the information obtained will be helpful in developing biomarkers for breeders and help the plant researchers to avoid wax apple cultivation problems such as fruit cracking.
Transcriptome analysis of rin mutant fruit and in silico analysis of promoters of differentially regulated genes provides insight into LeMADS-RIN-regulated ethylene-dependent as well as ethylene-independent aspects of ripening in tomato
TLDR
An attempt to distinguish between ethylene-dependent and Ethylene-independent aspects of ripening is made, which will be useful for developing strategies to improve fruit-related agronomic traits in tomato and other crops.
Metabolome and Transcriptome Integration Reveals Insights Into Flavor Formation of ‘Crimson’ Watermelon Flesh During Fruit Development
TLDR
The findings establish a metabolic profile during watermelon fruit development and provide insights into flavor formation and similar expression trends of sugars and genes involved in the glycolytic pathway.
Orthologous Revelation between Elaeis guineensis, Arabidopsis thaliana and Solanum lycopersicum
TLDR
Gene related to plant height, fruit development and fruit ripening in oil palm were predicted by comparing Elaeis guineensis genome sequence with Arabidopsis thaliana and Solanum lycopersicum genome sequence using comparative genomic approach.
Decrease in fruit moisture content heralds and might launch the onset of ripening processes.
TLDR
It is suggested that decline in fruit water content is an early event in fruit ripening and this information may be used to gauge fruit maturity for appropriate harvest date and for processing.
Genome-wide identification of small heat-shock protein (HSP20) gene family in grape and expression profile during berry development
TLDR
The results showed that most VvHSP20s were down-regulated by H2O2 treatment during fruit development and differences in their transcriptional levels may be the result of functional differentiation during evolution.

Results demonstrate multiple points of ethylene regulatory control during tomato fruit development and provide new insights into the molecular basis of Ethylene-mediated ripening.
Polyamines as anabolic growth regulators revealed by transcriptome analysis and metabolite profiles of tomato fruits engineered to accumulate spermidine and spermine
TLDR
The results presented here on the limited transcriptome in conjunction with metabolite profiles showing significant enhancement of anabolic pathways in transgenic fruits suggest that Spd/Spm act as anabolic growth regulator.
The manipulation and modification of tomato fruit ripening by expression of antisense RNA in transgenic plants
TLDR
The extreme ripening-impaired mutant, ripening inhibitor (rin) is used to identify additional genes implicated in the ripening process and this approach has resulted in the cloning of several novel Ripening-related mRNAs which are now being studied by antisense experiments.
Differential Gene Expression in Ripening Banana Fruit
TLDR
The elucidation of the molecular events associated with banana ripening will facilitate a better understanding and control of these processes, and will allow us to attain the long-term goal of producing candidate oral vaccines in transgenic banana plants.
Isolation and characterization of mRNAs differentially expressed during ripening of wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) fruits
Wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) is an attactive model system for studying ripening in non-climacteric fruit, because of its small diploid genome, its short reproductive cycle, and its capacity
Changes in Transcriptional Profiles Are Associated with Early Fruit Tissue Specialization in Tomato1[w]
TLDR
The data show that the expansion of locular cells is concomitant with the expression of genes controlling water flow, organic acid synthesis, sugar storage, and photosynthesis and suggest that hormones regulate this process.
Fleshy Fruit Expansion and Ripening Are Regulated by the Tomato SHATTERPROOF Gene TAGL1[W][OA]
TLDR
It is demonstrated that TAGL1 plays an important role in regulating both fleshy fruit expansion and the ripening process that together are necessary to promote seed dispersal of fleshy Fruit.
