Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the western world. In this study, we evaluated the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2 gene (MMP2) in CRC and analyzed its correlation with clinicopathological features. We found that the expression of MMP2 was significantly higher in CRC tissues than in the colorectal tissues. In addition, high levels of MMP2 protein were positively correlated with the status of tumor size, lymph node metastasis, distant…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Synergistic efficacy of Cullin1 and MMP-2 expressions in diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer.
TLDR
Cullin1 and MMP-2 expressions could be novel diagnostic and prognostic markers for CRC patients and significantly correlated with shorter overall survival (OS), as well as with clinicopathologic characteristics in patients.
Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) Expression in Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma and Its Association with Clinicopathologic Factors
TLDR
Undifferentiated tumors significantly express higher MMP-9 immunohistochemically and may serve as a significant prognostic factor for mortality and overall survival in NSCLC.
Matrix metalloproteinase 2 overexpression and prognosis in colorectal cancer: a meta-analysis
TLDR
MMP-2 overexpression is associated with poorer overall and progression-free survival in patients with CRC, and the prognostic role of MMP-3 expression status is identified.
miR-338-3p inhibits cell growth, invasion, and EMT process in neuroblastoma through targeting MMP-2
TLDR
It is demonstrated that miR-338-3p could suppress cell growth, invasion, and EMT pathway and induce apoptosis in neuroblastoma cells by targeting MMP-2.
Multivariate analysis of molecular indicators for postoperative liver metastasis in colorectal cancer cases.
TLDR
Combination detection of CEA, VEGF, and EGFR may be an effective means to predict CRC liver metastasis and Nm23, c-met, MMP2, COX-2, and CD44, in contrast, are not suitable as prognostic markers.
Prognostic significance of plasma matrix metalloprotease-2 in pancreatic cancer patients
TLDR
Elevated MMP-2 levels were observed in blood of pancreatic cancer patients which correlated with its tissue expression, however, these levels did not associate with survival or any clinicopathological parameters of patients.
A role for WISP2 in colorectal cancer cell invasion and motility.
TLDR
Up-regulation of MMP2, -7 and -9 may indicate that WISP2 regulates invasion and motility through MMPs, which may involve the WNT signalling pathway.
Divergent behaviors and underlying mechanisms of cell migration and invasion in non-metastatic T24 and its metastatic derivative T24T bladder cancer cell lines
TLDR
An inverse relationship between cell migration and invasion in human bladder cancer T24T cells is unraveled and a novel mechanism underlying the divergent roles of SOD2 and MMP-2 in regulating metastatic behaviors of human bladder T24 t cells is suggested.
Plasma MMP-2 and MMP-7 levels are elevated first month after surgery and may promote growth of residual metastases
TLDR
MMP-2 levels are elevated for 5 wk and MMP-7 levels elevated for weeks 2-6 and the etiology of these changes in unclear, trauma and wound healing likely play a role.

Prognostic significance of the immunoexpression of matrix metalloproteinase MMP2 and its inhibitor TIMP2 in laryngeal cancer.
TLDR
The results suggest that MMP2 expression may be of prognostic importance in laryngeal cancer, however, imbalances in the extracellular activities of matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of matrix meetingallop proteinases, linked to pathological tissue destruction, are more complex and need further investigation.
Prognostic value of membrane type 1 and 2 matrix metalloproteinase expression and gelatinase A activity in bladder cancer.
TLDR
MMP-2 activity is associated with an increase in MT2-M MP expression and with lymph node metastasis and no association was found between MT1-MMP expression and lymph nodes metastasis.
Matrix metalloproteinase–1 is associated with poor prognosis in colorectal cancer
TLDR
It is found that the presence of MMP–1 in colorectal cancer is associated with a poor prognosis and has prognostic value independent of Dukes stage, and treatment of those individuals whose colon tumors produce M MP–1 with MMP inhibitors is a therapeutic strategy worth pursuing.

TLDR
The present study revealed that MMP-2 overexpression predicts a poor prognosis in early-stage NSCLC, and it might be worth investigating the role of MMP inhibitors as adjuvant therapeutic agents inNSCLC.
Expression of MMP-2 correlates with increased angiogenesis in CNS metastasis of lung carcinoma.
TLDR
MMP-2 expression appears to confer enhanced vascular proliferation particularly at the brain-tumor interface which would support the contention of enhanced capability of growth and invasion within the CNS, possibly modulated by MMP2.
NGX6 inhibits AP-1 and Ets-1 expression and down-regulates cyclin D1 in human colorectal cancer.
TLDR
It is proposed that NGX6 expression is lost in the multistep process of human colorectal carcinogenesis, which can inhibit the expression of transcription factors AP-1 and Ets-1, and down-regulate the transcriptional activity of the cyclin D1 promoter in human CRC.
Matrix Metalloproteinase/Tissue Inhibitors of Matrix Metalloproteinase Phenotype Identifies Poor Prognosis Colorectal Cancers
TLDR
This study has identified that the MMP/TIMP profile is an independent indicator of poor prognosis in colorectal cancer.
Prognostic value of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) in patients with lymph node-negative breast carcinoma
TLDR
It is concluded that M MP-2 and MMP-2 are unfavorable prognostic factors in breast cancer patients and might be potential predictive factor for adjuvant systemic therapy.
Increased expression of matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases 1 and 2 correlate with poor prognostic variables in renal cell carcinoma.
TLDR
Increased expression of MMP2, MMP9, TIMP1, and TIMP2 proteins in RCCs correlate with poor prognostic variables including shortened patient survival, and the paradoxical poor prognosis implication of TIMP overexpression complements the recently documented dual function of TIMPs and warrants further investigation.
