Abstract The mating behaviour of three species of reptile tick, Aponomma hydrosauri, Amblyomma albolimbatum and Amb. limbatum is similar and involves a female sex pheromone which activates males to detach from their hosts and search. After contacting females, a stereotyped six-phase courtship sequence occurs.
