If the functions g k have no explicit time dependence the system is said to be autonomous. General system of first order linear DE's dx 1 dt = a 11 (t)x 1 + · · · + a 1n (t)x n + f 1 (t) (2). .. dx n dt = a n1 (t)x 1 + · · · + a nn (t)x n + f n (t) As in the general case, if there is no explicit time dependence in the functions a ij and f i the system is said to be autonomous. If all f i are zero then the system is said to be homogeneous. Otherwise it is inhomogeneous.
