We investigate generally covariant theories which admit a Fierz-Pauli mass term for metric perturbations around an arbitrary curved background. For this we restore the general covariance of the Fierz-Pauli mass term by introducing four scalar fields which preserve a certain internal symmetry in their configuration space. It is then apparent that for each given spacetime metric this construction corresponds to a completely different generally covariant massive gravity theory with different…

Cosmological perturbations in massive gravity and the Higuchi bound

In de Sitter spacetime there exists an absolute minimum for the mass of a spin-2 field set by the Higuchi bound m2 ⩾ 2H2. We generalize this bound to arbitrary spatially flat FRW geometries in the

Cosmological perturbations in massive gravity and the Higuchi bound

In de Sitter spacetime there exists an absolute minimum for the mass of a spin-2 field set by the Higuchi bound m2 ? 2H2. We generalize this bound to arbitrary spatially flat FRW geometries in the

Reduced massive gravity with two Stückelberg fields

We consider the non-linear massive gravity as a theory of a number of St\"uckelberg scalar fields minimally coupled to the Einstein-Hilbert gravity and argue that the counting of degrees of freedom

Growth histories in bimetric massive gravity

We perform cosmological perturbation theory in Hassan-Rosen bimetric gravity for general homogeneous and isotropic backgrounds. In the de Sitter approximation, we obtain decoupled sets of massless

Bouncing cosmologies in massive gravity on de Sitter

In the framework of massive gravity with a de Sitter reference metric, we study homogeneous and isotropic solutions with positive spatial curvature. Remarkably, we find that bounces can occur when

We present some sufficient conditions for the global in time existence of solutions of the semilinear Klein-Gordon equation of the self-interacting scalar field with complex mass. The coefficients of

Non-linear massive gravity

Massive gravity is a particular theoretical model that modifies gravity on cosmological scales and therefore could provide a dynamical explanation for the observed accelerated expansion of our

Stability of massive gravity solutions for holographic conductivity

We consider non-linear massive gravity with two St\"uckelberg fields in which the diffeomorphism invariance is broken spontaneously in two of the spacetime directions. This theory admits a charged

Massive Gravity

We review recent progress in massive gravity. We start by showing how different theories of massive gravity emerge from a higher-dimensional theory of general relativity, leading to the

Analytic solutions in nonlinear massive gravity.

We study spherically symmetric solutions in a covariant massive gravity model, which is a candidate for a ghost-free nonlinear completion of the Fierz-Pauli theory. There is a branch of solutions

Resummation of massive gravity.

Four-dimensional covariant nonlinear theories of massive gravity are constructed which are ghost-free in the decoupling limit to all orders, and the Hamiltonian constraint is maintained at least up to and including quartic order in nonlinearities, hence excluding the possibility of the Boulware-Deser ghost up to this order.

On non-linear actions for massive gravity

In this work we present a systematic construction of the potentially ghost-free non-linear massive gravity actions. The most general action can be regarded as a 2-parameter deformation of a minimal

Ghosts in massive gravity

In the context of Lorentz-invariant massive gravity we show that classical solutions around heavy sources are plagued by ghost instabilities. The ghost shows up in the effective field theory at huge

Massive gravity simplified: a quadratic action

We present a simplified formulation of massive gravity where the Higgs fields have quadratic kinetic term. This new formulation allows us to prove in a very explicit way that all massive gravity

Strong interactions and exact solutions in nonlinear massive gravity

We investigate strong coupling effects in a covariant massive gravity model, which is a candidate for a ghost-free non-linear completion of Fierz-Pauli. We analyse the conditions to recover general
